What types of fake lashes are there?

• Strip lashes: one full band that you stick along your entire lash line. Quick, and the most common choice.
• Cluster lashes and DIY lashes: separate clusters you place yourself, so you decide exactly where the volume goes.
• Pre glued and press-on lashes: the glue is already on the band, you just press them down.
• Magnetic lashes: you apply magnetic eyeliner and click the lashes onto it, no glue needed.
• Half lashes: a short band for the outer corner only, for a subtle cat-eye effect.

The fibre matters too: synthetic hair gives a crisp, defined line, while silk- and mink-style fibres look softer and airier.

How do you apply false eyelashes?

• Prep: curl your own lashes and add a coat of mascara so they blend with the band.
• Trim to fit: hold the lash along your lid and cut the excess off the outer end.
• Apply glue: run a thin line of lash glue along the band and wait until it turns tacky.
• Place: use tweezers to set the band as close to your own lash line as possible and press gently.

Lashes without glue: press-on and pre glued

Lashes with a self-adhesive edge are the fastest option: no glue, no waiting. Make sure your lashes are clean and dry, press the band against your lash line and you're done. Pre glued lashes usually last several wears if you remove them carefully and store them properly.

Cluster lashes and underlash extensions

With cluster lashes you attach small clusters underneath your own lashes instead of on top. Apply a thin layer of bond to your lashes, place the clusters under your lash line with tweezers and finish with the seal. The result looks closer to lash extensions and lasts several days with most brands.

How do you remove false eyelashes?

• Loosen the glue: dampen a cotton bud with eye make-up remover and run it along the lash line.
• Peel off: lift the band gently from the outer corner inwards, never by pulling your own lashes.
• Clean the band: peel the leftover glue off the band with tweezers.

Cleaning and reusing your lashes

Most fake lashes are reusable. After each wear, take the glue residue off the band, clean the fibres with a cotton bud and a little make-up remover and let them air dry. Store them back in their original box so they keep their shape.

How long do false eyelashes last?

That depends on the type and the glue. Strip lashes and press-on lashes are usually a one-day wear. With a bond & seal underneath your lashes, like the Falscara range, the clusters stay put for up to around ten days.

False eyelashes for beginners

Just starting out? Go for a pre glued or press-on set: there's little that can go wrong, you don't work with glue and the band is already cut to size. Half lashes are a good starting point too, because you only place a small piece. Add tweezers or an applicator, they work far more precisely than your fingers.
