Liquid Eyeshadow
Liquid eyeshadow puts the colour on your lid in one sweep, with the applicator that sits in the cap. Because the pigments float in a liquid base rather than in powder, you get a smooth, almost wet shine and a coverage that would take three layers of powder to match. Once it is dry it stays put, even on an oily lid. What is liquid eyeshadow?
It is eyeshadow in a tube or bottle with a doe-foot or brush applicator. You don't need an eyeshadow brush to put the colour on, only to blend it out. There are two families: liquid to powder dries down matte and then feels like powder, while the glossy and chrome versions keep their wet, mirror-like finish. Going for gloss? Put the colour only in the centre of your lid and keep the rest of your eye quiet, because a glossy lid pulls the attention on its own. Matte liquids behave like a tinted primer: you can set powder eyeshadow over them for extra depth, and they will not crease. Chrome and metallic liquids are the boldest of the three and work strongest over a dark base; the Space Glam Liquid Chrome from Catrice is made for exactly that. How to apply liquid eyeshadow
The catch is that it dries fast, so always work one eye at a time:
- Set an eyeshadow primer first if you want longer wear.
- Apply the colour with the applicator, from the centre of your lid outwards.
- Blend the edges straight away with your finger or a small brush, because once it's dry you won't move it.
- Wait until the first layer is completely dry before you add a second, or it will crack open.
- Don't squint while it dries, or the colour will transfer onto your lower lid.
